With decades of experience as a professional communicator, DynamiCoach Founder Tom Cobin can help you elevate your speaking and presentation skills to achieve your goals.
Tom began public speaking more than a half-century ago! In seventh and eighth grades, he was awarded trophies and plaques for winning speech contests all across the New York City Metropolitan Area. Tom was named Valedictorian of his elementary school class, and delivered the Commencement Speech at graduation. In high school debate, he and his partner advanced all the way to State Finals in New York. He then graduated early in three years with honors as a Merit Scholar, and enrolled in a Pre-Med curriculum at Cornell University.
Tom later transitioned to studying Broadcast Journalism at New York University in New York City. At the student-run radio station, WNYU-FM, he held roles as a newscaster, talk show host, and jazz DJ. (Trivia nugget: the classmate with the radio show immediately before Tom’s on Thursday nights became one of the first “VeeJays” on MTV!)
While still in college, Tom began working professionally as a freelance on-air radio reporter for the Mutual Broadcasting System and its New York City affiliate, WHN-AM. Tom served as President of the NYU Chapter of The Society of Professional Journalists / Sigma Delta Chi. He was the top student of his graduating NYU Class in Broadcast Journalism, and was inducted into the Kappa Tau Alpha Journalism Honor Society.

Even before college graduation, Tom was already working at “The Tiffany Network,” CBS. He served as a writer & producer for CBS News Nighwatch (the first overnight newscast on network television); the CBS Morning News; and at Channel 2 News on the network’s flagship station, WCBS-TV. Tom won an Emmy Award for producing coverage of the notorious Joel Steinberg Child Abuse Trial: the test case for allowing cameras in the courtroom in New York State. Tom’s 10 years “behind-the-scenes” in New York City culminated with two years as Channel 2’s Weekend Producer, responsible for supervising all personnel, operations, and broadcasts on Saturdays and Sundays. Tom then decided to leave his hometown to go on-camera.
Tom has held roles as Investigative Reporter, Weathercaster, and Anchor. In his first on-air position, Tom won the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association Award for Enterprise Reporting in 1993. Then, just two years after launching his on-camera career, Tom became the first journalist ever to win two coveted Edward R. Murrow Awards in the same year from the Radio / Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) — considered one of the most prestigious awards in television journalism.
Shortly after joining WAVY-TV in Virginia, Tom covered the Oklahoma City bombing in April, 1995. Two years later, he was again recognized by RTNDA with a Regional Award for Investigative Reporting. The following year, Tom won the AP’s coveted award for “Outstanding Effort by an Individual Reporter” in the state of Virginia. During Tom’s five years with “10 On Your Side,” his hard-hitting investigative reports were featured several times on nationally-syndicated “Montel Williams Show.”

Throughout his pharmaceutical career, Tom helped elevate the performance of colleagues as a District and National Sales Trainer. (Tom’s passion for coaching others has also included being an instructor in skiing, sailing, windsurfing, and rollerblading.)
Due to his robust background as a speaker and trainer, Tom delivered Presentation Skills Workshops for pharmaceutical field-sales colleagues, and advised senior leadership on important presentations.
Tom played a critical leading role in the development and execution of his company’s ground-breaking, first-ever “Virtual Sales Meeting” — years before COVID-19! The project won an internal company award for innovation and cost-savings. This experience left him well-prepared for the sudden transformation of the business environment due to the pandemic.
Tom is now offering his extensive knowledge and experience to help you improve your communication and presentation skills, to achieve the results you seek: in sales, marketing, motivational speaking, career advancement, job-seeking, etc. Tom’s DynamiCoach Approach marries thoroughly-researched scientific data with practical activities and exercises. He’ll help you identify and enhance the “voice” that is uniquely your own. His group workshops and personal coaching can elevate your skills in public speaking, presentation, and facilitation. You’ll be better prepared for all environments: live-in-person, virtual, and “hybrid” settings.
